MEET PHILLIP
"REPRESENTATION THAT DELIVERS"
Who is Phillip Edward Alexander:
A publicist and communications specialist by profession, he has advised some of the biggest names in the public and private sector where the management of media and their corporate and private images are concerned. He is also a well known columnist, a widely followed social media blogger and a talk show host, a political and social activist, the founder of the Jericho Project and Chairman of the Citizen’s Union of T&T, he has now added independent candidate for the diverse and dynamic constituency of Diego Martin West to his bio.
As a social activist, Phillip Edward Alexander founded one of the most productive humanitarian organizations in the Jericho Project, an organization that has dedicated itself to the upliftment of the homeless, the orphans and the disabled in society. His and their successes in breaking down the walls that separated these formerly marginalized groups from society has spawned many others equally motivated to take up the mantle, demonstrating beyond a shadow of a doubt the power of the average person to make a difference where it moist matters.
As a communications specialist he has contributed to the national conversation and in his weekly columns and daily blog has brought critical thinking back to the national conversation. Emboldening others to be equally forthright, the historic top down approach to how politics was done in this country has been broken forever, replaced by a new order of governments and state bodies answerable to the people.
Can an independent make a difference?
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago the people's business will be conducted in a Parliament or a ‘House of Representatives’ as it were, and to the Chair (the authority in the space) these representatives are all expected to be independent in service to their respective constituencies first and foremost. That is why no member of Parliament is ever referred to in the Chamber by their name or as having any other membership recognised in that space save and except for their role as elected representative for the constituency, in whose name they are addressed.
How can you get involved?
First and foremost, ensure that you are registered to vote. Check the up to date voters list and make sure that you are listed correctly. Then you can of course facilitate by sharing information and engaging others in conversation regarding the failures of the past twenty four years of almost zero representation, and the promise that Phillip Edward Alexander brings not only to the constituency, but to the Parliament, where strong voices and clear minds are urgently needed to bring the national conversation back to what’s in the best interest of the people.
And finally, if the political bug bites you, you can be a part of the vibrant and dynamic team that has crafted this campaign and which will be steering it through to the elections and providing support systems and manpower after to follow through on the promises made.
Accomplishments to date:
Besides the Four Roads/Diego Martin Highway Bypass, as a constituency activist Phillip Edward Alexander has has been a strong voice for the completion of the Carenage Fish Market, the Carenage Health Centre and short term traffic solutions that promises to bring relief to the commuters of the westernmost tip heading into and out of Carenage and Chaguaramas. Like the Four Roads Bypass, it intends to utilise simple solutions to bring immediate relief while the longer term solutions are studied as part of a national traffic master plan. For the rest of the constituency he has been lobbying for a Grand Diego Martin Farmer's Market that would provide tens of thousands of square feet of retail space for the constituency’s farmers as well as provide for the people of Diego Martin West and environs, and also facilitate retail, restaurants and professional offices that would also serve the surrounding communities. A Government Administrative Complex to bring government services closer to the people, and a Diego Martin general Hospital are also on the list of items being lobbied for.
Flooding - Phillip Edward Alexander is also a strong proponent for watercourse expansion and a storm water bypass that would bring an end to Diego Martin being a flood zone once and for all. This project would also bring much needed jobs and one of our conditions for the project is that all skilled and unskilled labor must be sourced first in the Diego Martin Valley and environs.
Crime - As a social activist Phillip Edward Alexander has been lobbying for the social and infrastructural redevelopment of many of the depressed communities throughout Trinidad & Tobago, and on that list are some familiar to us in DMW, names such as L’anse Mitan, Big Yard, Scorpion, Vineyard, Abbe Poujade, Richplain, Covigne, Mercer, La Puerta, Bagatelle and Factory road to name a few. Coupled with a zero tolerance approach to guns and illegal drugs, the idea is to use the double pronged approach of honey and vinegar to suppress criminal activity while providing hope and opportunity to those formerly left without choice. These ideas have been discussed at length with a former Minister of National Security with whom he worked closely, and from which a holistic plan is expected to be included in the coming ‘Contract with the People of Diego Martin West.’
Traffic - As was referred to before, Phillip Edward Alexander has been at the forefront of traffic solutions in the west and has also contributed to the discussions in the neighbouring Diego Martin North East, itself suffering from a problem similar to DMW before the bypass was implemented. The proposed concept for the solution to the Carenage traffic remains an expansion to four lanes in the Point Cumana area up to the existing fish market to allow for the stop and go of vehicles that are themselves responsible for much of the traffic, and the creation of a third lane all the way to Chaguaramas, being one way heading west until noon, and then reverting to one way heading east until midnight so as to provide a peak time second lane in both directions.
These are just some of the issues which, together with jobs, education, home ownership, and many others will be discussed on the ground with you the voters as the camapign progresses.
